Four proposals and a decision Results of the test planning for Science City |
Von George Yadigaroglu, ETHZ/IET/LKT The caption of the picture showing the proposed open space reads: "Andrea Deplazes: Sustainability and decisive forms." Are the little windmills of the maquette going to assure "sustainability" ? Or are they the typical token alternative/renewable energy contribution that has to be added to make us feel good and politically correct? The message is in essence badly misleading in giving the impression and inciting us to believe that the windmills are going to make a SIGNIFICANT contribution and that THIS is the solution for the future. I am challenging the designers/architects to provide numbers of how much energy the windmills are going to produce, at what cost, and what their impact on the local environment will be.
